What Easter Songs Are Most Meaningful to You?

I’m still seeking your feedback on this question:

What Easter/Resurrection songs are most meaningful to you and why?

Please leave your feedback…I’d love to hear each of your stories!

Today there’s a phrase of a relatively new worship song running through my mind…and its message is just as appropriate in this season of Lent & Easter as it is for every other time of year.

The phrase is from the beginning of the chorus…

    Victory in Jesus is a song I learned long ago that still holds special meaning for me.
    Recently, I’ve fallen in love with Revelation Song.
    “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.
    Who was, and is, and is to come.”

    He’s Risen, by 2nd Chapter of Acts. I wake up on Resurrection Sunday with that song loud in my heart. It’s like a spiritual alarm clock each year.

      In that same vein is the “classic” by Rich Mullins “If I Stand,” and another “classic” from the same era, “Was It A Morning Like This.”

    When I think of Easter, at least this year, the term that comes to my mind over and over again is “Lamb” — so this Easter, songs that reference Jesus as “Lamb” are especially on my mind. “Hallelujah to the Lamb”, “Worthy Is the Lamb”, and the hymn “Hallelujah! What a Savior” are just a few…

    My recent favorite is ‘In Christ Alone.’

    In Christ alone, who took on flesh
    Fullness of God in helpless Babe
    This gift of love and righteousness

    The first time I heard Travis Cottrell’s “Alive Forever,” it gave me goosebumps and made me cry. I loved it that first time and I still love it. I also love “Worthy Is the Lamb” from “The Messiah.” I guess my favorite Easter hymn would be the traditional “Up from the Grave He Arose.”

    There’s a stirring deep within me.
    Could it be my time has come.
    When I see my precious savior,
    Face to face when all is done.
    Is that His voice I am hearing?
    “Come away my precious one.”
    Is He calling me?
    Is He calling me?

    I will rise up, I’ll rise up
    And, bow down. And lay my crown,
    At His wounded feet.

    (This song just fills me with hope. The melody soars to the heavens and carries my soul with it. It causes me to anticipate my own resurrection – proven by His resurrection.

    I love all of these…One new one we’re doing this year is “O Church Arise” helping us all understand that God is raising us up to be His people with the same power with which He raised Jesus from the grave. I also like Matt Maher’s “Christ Is Risen” and Jernigan’s “Who Can Satisfy My Soul”.
    And do NOT think about doing an Easter service without singing the Hallelujah Chorus! 😉 We sing it every year at OC at Christmas & Easter.

    “In Christ Alone” is a personal favorite. The song points us back to the source of our hope, and Easter is about real hope! I really like “Christ is Risen” by Matt Maher. I think it’s a great song that not only reminds us Christ is risen, but challenges us to “come awake” and live risen lives now!

    I really like Casting Crown’s remake of “Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me).” Timeless lyrics that needed a musical update. I think the gospel message that is core in the song could easily be used around Easter.

      We’re going to do, Lord Willing and Rehearsal Willing, an arrangement of “Glorious Day” on Easter. Isn’t it incredible!!

    There are several songs that are really speaking to my heart this Lent and Easter season. DJ has already named a couple for me! The song “O The Blood” by Gateway Worship.

    VERSE 1- O the blood, Crimson love
    Price of life’s demand
    Shameful sin, Placed on Him
    The Hope of every man

    CHORUS- O the blood of Jesus washes me
    O the blood of Jesus shed for me
    What a sacrifice that saved my life
    Yes, the blood, it is my victory

    VERSE 2- Savior Son, Holy One
    Slain so I can live
    O See the Lamb, The great I Am
    Who takes away my sin

    BRIDGE- O the blood of the Lamb
    O the blood of the Lamb
    O the blood of the Lamb
    The precious blood of the Lamb
    What a sacrifice
    That saved my life
    Yes, the blood, it is my victory

    Just wow.

    Another one is At The Cross by Hillsong. This song gets me every time. The most powerful lyrics in the whole song (to me!) are: “You tore the veil, You made a way, when you said that It is done.”

    Both of these songs fill me with hope and truly express how much God loves me.
